Satan is a counterfeiter and in order to deceive people and cause them to be lost, he had to counterfeit the plan of salvation, that saves us.  The mark, name and number of the beast counterfeits the plan of salvation.

Acts 2; 38
Then Peter said unto them, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahoshua Messiah for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Qodesh Spirit.

Sin is the breaking of Yahweh's Law.  Yes!  We still keep Yahweh's Law!!!!  Paul's writings teaches us that we are no longer under the Law and that we are not saved by keeping the law but that we are saved by Yahweh's grace. And it just means that!  His statement does not mean that we are free to continue to Sin.  The law teaches us what sin is.  Do not be deceived into thinking you can break Yahweh's law (to keep on living in sin) and get by with it.

1 John 3; 4
Whosoever committeth sin transgresses also the law:  For sin is the transgression of the law.

When you repent of your sins, and start keeping his laws, you will be sealed in your forehead and hand with Yahweh's laws.

Satan counterfeits this, so that instead of being sealed with the commandments of Yahweh, people are marked with the commandments, doctrines, false feast days of man, such as Christmas and Easter, and the false Sabbath, Sunday.

Over the years as I have pondered what the mark, name and number are, my thoughts were that the answer must come from the word itself, and that it must have something to do with sin, because that is what displeases Yahweh.

Ex. 13;6,9,12&16
 6.  Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and the seventh day shall be a feast to Yahweh.
 9.  And it shall be for a sign unto you upon your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that Yahweh's law may be in your mouth:  For with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out of Egypt.
12.  That you shall set apart unto Yahweh all that opens the matrix, and every firstling that comes of a beast which you have;  The males shall be Yahweh's
16.  And it shall be for a token upon your hand, and for frontlet between your eyes:  For by strength of hand Yahweh brought us forth out of Egypt.
 

Deut. 6;1,6&8
 1.  Now these are the commandments, the statues, and the judgments, which Yahweh commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land whither you go to possess it:
 6.  And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart.
 8.  And you shall bind them for a sigh upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlet between your eyes.

Deut. 11;1&18
 1.  Therefore you shall love Yahweh and keep his charge, and his statutes and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.
18.  Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlet between your eyes.

Notice that Yahweh's Law is a sign in our forehead and hand.  So it would make sense that the mark of the beast would be a counterfeit set of laws, that are made by man.

Now remember that Yahweh's Law consists of many things such as his qodesh feast days, Sabbath day, food law and others.  These are counterfeited to deceive us.

Yahweh's true qodesh days are ignored and substituted with man made so called holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and many others.  The 7th day Sabbath that Yahweh blessed and made qodesh, man has replaced with the first day of the week called Sunday.  You will not find anywhere in Yahweh's word that the Sabbath day was changed to the first day of the week.  Man as took this upon himself to do, and man has no right nor authority to change anything in Yahweh's word!

The second step of salvation is being sealed in your forehead with the name of Yahoshua in baptism.  Again, Satan has counterfeited his name as well with another name or in some cases just titles.

Names such as Jesus or Jehovah are corruptions and neither one is his name.  Our Savior was never called Jesus in his lifetime.  The letter J did not exist until the 14th century and the name Jehovah was never used until 500 years ago.  The sacred name, Yahweh, appears almost 7,000 times in the original Scriptures, but man has replaced the name with the words "The Lord".  If you do your homework and search into this very carefully, you will see this for yourself.  Yahoshua means the salvation of Yahweh.  Man has no authority to remove his name or change it!

Yahoshua is the only saving name.

Acts 4;12
12.  Neither is there salvation in any other:  For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Do you really want to take the chance and be baptized in another name other than the name of Yahoshua, which the apostles baptized in?  So many people are being baptized in the titles, father, son and holy ghost.  But when Yahoshua was telling his deciples in Matthew 28:19  Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Qodesh Spirit:  Notice that he told them to baptize them in the NAME.  He did not say to repeat these words.  Is this so hard to understand?  You cannot throw away the scriptures showing that the apostles baptized in the name of Yahoshua!

Acts 19;1-6
 1.  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus; and finding certain disciples,
 2.  He said unto them, Have you received the Qodesh Spirit since you believed?  And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Qodesh Spirit.
 3.  And he said unto them, Unto what then were you baptized?  And they said, Unto John's baptism.
 4.  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Messiah, Yahoshua.
 5.  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of Yahoshua.
 6.  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Qodesh Spirit came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.

The third step of salvation is being filled with Yahweh's Qodesh Spirit.  Satan's counterfeit for this is the number of the beast.

John 7; 38 & 39
38.  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39.  But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive:

John 14; 16, 17 & 26
16.  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17.  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him:  but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
26.  But the Comforter, which is the Qodesh Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Acts 1; 8
8.  But ye shall receive power, after that the Qodesh Spirit is come upon you:  and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Romans 8; 6, 7, 8, 9 & 14
6.  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against Yahweh:  for it is not subject to the law of Yahweh, neither indeed can be.
8.  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please Yahweh.
9.  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of Yahweh dwell in you.  Now if any man have not the Spirit of Messiah, he is none of his.
14.  For as many as are led by the Spirit of Yahweh, they are the sons of Yahweh.

From the scriptures we see how the Spirit of Yahweh works in our lives.  The Spirit of Yahweh leads and guides us and gives us power over sin and is our Comforter and teacher.

There is a belief system  in this world that does something similar which is a counterfeit and is very evil.  It is called numerology.  Astrology and tarot cards uses numbers also.  Numerology is a belief that numbers guide peoples lives, destinies and fortunes.  It is believed that it dates all the way back to the chaldeans of Babylon.

Numerology is a method of divination which is employed in the use of magic.  The practice is based upon the statement of the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, "The world is built upon the power of numbers."  This practice has survived throughout the centuries down to the present day.  Based upon Pythagoras' statement, "The world is built upon the power of numbers," numerology became systems of both divination and magic because both systems are based upon the broader concept that the entire universe is composed of mathematical patterns, and all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to universal vibrations,  Therefore, all things, including names, words, birth dates and birthplaces, are able to be reduced to numbers in order to determine personalities, destinies and fortunes of individuals.  Astrology and tarot cards are connected to numerology.  In modern day numerology , often a person's name and birth date will be the starting point.  A numerical value is assigned to each letter in their name.  By adding these along with the numbers of their birth month and date a numerologist establishes their key numbers.  He then ascribes special meaning to these numbers, which he feels provide a complete description of them including their personality, their unconscious desires, and their destiny.  In the Greek mysteries, the number 888 represented the "Higher Mind." and the number 666 represented the "Mortal Mind."
I think this is why John used the number 666 in Rev. 13; 18, not that he believes in this numerology system but using it to make a point. He is showing that this number belief system is counterfeit to having Yahweh's Spirit. To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life.  We need the mind of Messiah.  This is having Yahoshua's Spirit dwelling within us.

This number system does not come from Yahweh.  It comes from the imagination of man and Yahweh considers it an abomination.  There is nothing wrong with numbers, we use them in our every day life but the use and belief that numbers guide and direct our lives is counterfeiting having Yahweh's Spirit within us to guide and direct our lives.  The number 666 is just a number (663, 664, 665, 666, 667,668).  I feel set free.  I will never fear it again!  But you say evil people are using it in the evil things they do.  But that is because they use it in their ignorance, and because they are proud of their evil.

Deut. 18; 10-14
10.  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11.  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12.  For all that do these things are an abomination unto Yahweh:  and because of these abominations Yahweh your Elohim doth drive them out from before thee.
13.  Thou shalt be perfect with Yahweh your Elohim.
14.  For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners:  but as for thee, Yahweh your Elohim hath not suffered thee so to do.

The word of Yahweh says that there is nothing new under the sun.  It is the same old sins and idolatry that have always been around.  It just gets modernized!!!

I believe that John is showing in Revelations, symbolically, what  the scriptures say all through Yahweh's word, and that is simply that we should not sin (break Yahweh's Laws) and what will happen to those that do and have refused to repent and love his name and have rejected his Spirit, at his return.  You may be thinking within yourself that it looks like you cannot repent from having the mark, name and number of the beast but you can repent, otherwise, Yahweh would not have said:

Rev. 18;4
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

There is time to repent, and be baptized in the name of Yahoshua Messiah and to be filled with his Spirit, but one day it could be to late.

Rev. 3;18
I counsel thee to buy gold tried in the fire from me, that you might be rich,  (baptism in the name of Yahoshua, we are rich when we have his name, we are a part of the family of Yahweh) and white raiment, that you might be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; (repentance from sin, sin is the breaking of Yahweh's Law) and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you might see. ( being filled with the Spirit of Yahweh, which leads us and guides us into all his truth and righteousness).

Conclusion:
The mark (man made laws and feast days) counterfeits Yahweh's laws and feast days written in our forehead and hand.
The name (false name) counterfeits the true name Yahoshua given in baptism.
The number (numerology) counterfeits the Spirit of Yahweh given to guide us into all righteousness.
The mark, name and number is a false salvation plan that counterfeits the true salvation plan that we find in Acts 2:38.
